Your surveyor, Martin Pittilo, is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects), was elected a Fellow Surveyor Member of the YDSA (Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association), and is a Fellow of the IIMS (International Institute of Marine Surveyors). He is a past President of the YBDSA as well as a past Chairman of the Certifying Authority committee of the YDSA. He is currently a member of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Certifying Authority committee, a member of the British Marine’s Boat Retailers and Brokers committee, and a board member of the IIMS. He worked for 13 years at Lloyd’s Register, before setting up Maple Marine Ltd. He has sailed throughout his life, racing cross Channel in the 80s before turning to dinghys and cruising yachts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At university, Martin studied Ship Science (Naval Architecture). On graduating with an Honours degree he started work at WS Atkins. His work at Atkins was as part of a team applying leading edge technologies to oil installations offshore, commercial buildings onshore and to commercial craft. A brief interlude from sailing ensued when Martin spent 3 months at the International Catamarans Shipyard in Tasmania, when he was part of a design team for an 86m vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From WS Atkins, Martin moved to Lloyd’s Register in London. Initially working for the Ship Emergency Response service he ended up as one of the marine division senior managers. Highlights of his time at Lloyds included being on-site for the Sea Empress oil spill and working with the Lloyd’s Register Design Approval Centres when he was responsible for technical software used for marine use worldwide at Lloyd’s Register. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin has also worked as a technical manager in a Charter company in the Solent arranging and performing maintenance on the boats, and has done consultancy work for other sailing schools including as Commodore Yachting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He decided to come back to his small craft roots and left Lloyd’s Register to form Maple Marine and do what he enjoys : Spending time on boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
